Skinner Charges to Fourth-Place Finish at Greenville Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 1, 2017) – Marshall Skinner scored a top-five result in USCS Series action last Saturday night at Greenville Speedway.

Skinner’s evening began with an eventful heat race when he was forced to start at the rear of the field with three laps to go after running second.

“I started third and eventually passed a guy for second,” he said. “Then he put an ugly slider on me and actually spun out in front of me after the slide job, taking both of us out. I had to restart at the back in eighth place with three laps to go, but I was able to make it back to third by the finish. But it didn’t give me any passing points since I finished where I started, so that put me fourth row outside for the feature.”

Skinner spent little time in his eighth starting spot in the feature once the green flag waved over the 20-car field.

“I made some real good passes early and eventually got as high as second,” he said. “It was a two-groove deal, where you could run the bottom and the top.

“We had a restart with about seven laps to go and I was running fourth. I passed both Terry (Gray) and Derek (Hagar) on the bottom on the restart and got to second for a few laps when the yellow came out again. I could tell the bottom was starting to go away and losing grip. On the restart, Derek got back by me and I ran third until about two laps to go when Cody Gardner got by me in traffic.”

Skinner also won the Hoosier Speed Dash earlier in the night.

“That’s a nice little bonus,” he said. “It’s some extra points and you always appreciate a little extra cash. It’s just something extra they do for the guys who raced the series the week before.”

Skinner is slated to return to action Aug. 12-13 at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., with the USCS Series.
