Hill Beginning Her 2019 Racing Season This Weekend in Florida

Hill Beginning Her 2019 Racing Season This Weekend in Florida

Inside Line Promotions – SIX NATIONS, Ontario, Canada (Feb. 4, 2019) – Alex Hill is excited to open her 2019 racing season this weekend. The 19-year-old will race her 360ci winged sprint car for most of this month in Florida before joining the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour in March for a full season of competition.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back on the track this week,” said Hill, who plans to race with the USCS Series at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala this Friday and Saturday. “We’ve usually started our year at East Bay so it’s nice to start a week earlier this year.”

Hill’s plans for 2019 didn’t solidify until a few weeks ago.

“We weren’t planning on running the full ASCS tour this year,” she said. “But then my teammate, Sam (Hafertepe Jr.), decided to run it again so it obviously made sense for us to do it, too.”

Hill expects to improve on the 13th-place finish in the championship standings she recorded last year during her rookie campaign.

“Last year was definitely a learning experience,” she said. “I raced at a lot of tracks for the first time. I think this year will go better for me and my crew since we’ll have experience at most of the tracks.”

Hill will have a full plate of racing this year as she tackles not only the full ASCS schedule, but numerous other events as well.

“We plan to race some USCS races before ASCS starts in Texas in March,” she said. “We also plan to run other races during the year that work with our schedule. We have a 410 race planned in Pennsylvania for April and hope to add a few more of those races.”

Hill is now a sophomore at California State at Los Angeles. Her class schedule is friendlier toward traveling to races this year.

“I’ll be done with my last class for the week by 9 a.m. on Thursdays this year,” said the full-time student. “That will work better than last year and will give me most of the day on Thursday to travel to races.”

Veteran crew chief Daryl Turford will once again oversee operations for the Hill’s Racing Team during their ambitious schedule. He’ll be joined by a familiar face this year.

“Ronnie Monture traveled with us before, but he had a grandchild and is going to stay home and work in the shop this year,” she said. “Daryl’s dad, Peter, retired a few months ago and he’s going to go on the road with us.”

The races this weekend at Bubba Raceway Park will mark Hill’s debut at the oval.

“I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel again since it’s been so long,” she said. “I’ve never raced there so it’s always exciting visiting a new track. I enjoy starting the season in Florida.”
