Hill Experiences Challenging Opening Weekend in Florida

Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (Feb. 12, 2019) – Alex Hill’s first-ever visit to Bubba Raceway Park was a challenging experience as she kicked off her 2019 racing season last weekend during a USCS Series doubleheader. A driving miscue was costly on Friday while mechanical woes plagued her on Saturday.

“I thought we ran pretty well, although our results didn’t show it,” she said. “I made a mistake on Friday that cost us and we had some mechanical problems on Saturday. But other than those issues, I thought we ran some pretty good laps for our first time there.”

On Friday, Hill started last in her heat race and was able to advance a spot in a race where there was little passing, placing her eighth on the starting grid in her 14-car B Main.

“I was on the outside and got too tight going into the turn on the first lap of the B Main,” she said. “I went way high and everybody drove under me and I fell back to last. After that, I was able to move forward and eventually finished seventh. I had a really good car and I’m confident that I would have finished in the top four and transferred to the A Main if I hadn’t made that mistake on the first lap.”

A better draw the following night started Hill third in her heat race, but mechanical problems forced her from the contest.

“I dropped to fourth and was able to regain third when the wing slider valve kind of exploded fluid everywhere in the car and on me,” she said.

The DNF in her heat race forced her to start last in a B Main.

“I didn’t have any brakes right away in the B Main so I didn’t go full throttle during the race,” she said. “I just kind of played it safe, especially since we had started in the back. I kept pumping them and they finally came back with a couple of laps to go, but it was too late to do anything.”

Hill is looking forward to racing at the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s this Thursday through Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla.

“We’ve begun our season at East Bay for quite a while now,” she said. “Last year we were able to make the A Main all three nights. We’re hoping to do that again and put down some fast laps.”
