Wilson Maneuvers to Runner-Up Result During USCS Series Event in Tennessee

Wilson Maneuvers to Runner-Up Result During USCS Series Event in Tennessee

Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Tenn. (April 2, 2019) – Greg Wilson posted his second straight podium finish last Friday at Lexington 104 Speedway, where he garnered a runner-up result.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team was strong throughout the USCS Series event. He won the dash from the pole position, but had to start much further back in both the heat race and main event.

“It’s all pill draw,” he said. “We started last in the heat and passed three cars. At the end of the heat we were trying to get by another car. I was probably too tentative, but I didn’t want to get tore up either.”

Wilson maneuvered from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. That ranked him seventh in overall points following the heat races. The feature inversion was six, meaning Wilson narrowly missed starting on the front row for the main event.

“In the feature it took us awhile to get going because we had tightened up,” he said. “Once we burned some fuel off we got going. Carson (Short) and his team did a really good job. My hats off to them. If the race went green in traffic maybe we were a little better than Carson. We could go where they couldn’t go and when he couldn’t pick his lane we were better, but that’s racing. Out in clean air with a restart with a few laps to go he was good.”

Wilson charged from seventh to second in the feature.

“We’re not where we need to be with the car, but it’s good for our confidence to run well,” he said. “We’re doing the right things. We just need to go a little further or step back and find another tweak to make.”

Saturday’s USCS Series event at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark., rained out.

The plan for this weekend is still up in the air with potential inclement weather. Wilson does plan on competing on Sunday at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.

“Ron Hammons and Beth have been affiliated with racing for a long time,” Wilson said. “I drove for him. He recently decided to get out of owning cars and to help us out. Their business does a lot of work with race tracks. They did a big carpet job at Kentucky Speedway. It’s pretty cool what they do.

“Robert Salathe III a.k.a. “RGIII” of Bedford Valley Petroleum has owned race teams in Pennsylvania. I met him a few years ago and he’s been involved with our deal for about three years now. We’re very grateful for his support.”
