Hagar Takes Points Lead After First Half of USCS Speedweek

Hagar Takes Points Lead After First Half of USCS Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Tenn. (May 30, 2019) – Derek Hagar started off the grueling USCS Speedweek with a lot of consistency, which helped him take over the points lead at the midpoint of the spectacle. Four races were run last weekend and the remaining races will pick up once again next week.

“Friday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., we started fifth in our heat race and ran second,” Hagar said. “We ended up finishing third in the feature and that started us off with a pretty good mindset for the weekend.”

Hagar won a heat race on Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. He lined up 12th for the feature and charged to a fourth-place outing. His next race was on Sunday at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark.

“We started fifth in our heat race at Harrisburg and didn’t gain any spots so we finished there,” he said. “We had to start way back in 19th for the A Main, but the car was good and we were able to come all the way up to fourth.”

Hagar finished off the first portion of Speedweek on Monday at Lexington 104 Speedway. He went from sixth to third in his heat race, which started him second in the main event.

“We led about half of the race, but then Tony Stewart got by us,” he said. “We ran him back down and I was at his rear end at the finish line. Time just ran out and I ended up finishing second. There was a lot of good competition all weekend long like Stewart, Sammy and Jeff Swindell, and Mark Smith. While I would’ve liked to be in Victory Lane, I’m pleased with our results when we had such stiff competition all weekend.”

Thanks to his four top-five finishes, Hagar took over the points lead for the Speedweek title. There are just three races remaining and they will be held after this coming weekend.

Next up is the Music City Outlaw Nationals this Friday and Saturday at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

“We have to wait another week to get back to USCS racing so we’re headed to Nashville this weekend,” Hagar said. “It’ll be our first 410 race of the season and I’m looking forward to racing with the Outlaws. We’re just going to focus on this weekend and see what we can get done.”
