Skinner Nets Three Top-10 Finishes in Two Weekends With USCS Series

Skinner Nets Three Top-10 Finishes in Two Weekends With USCS Series

Inside Line Promotions – TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (July 2, 2019) – Marshall Skinner scored a trio of top-10 finishes in USCS Series action during the last two weekends.

Last Sunday Skinner started fourth and finished sixth in an afternoon race at North Alabama Speedway – a race that was postponed from Saturday night.

“I started second row outside and there was no way anyone would let me to the bottom right away,” said Skinner, who won his heat race. “I eventually squeezed in between Kyle Amerson and Danny Smith and that’s how we rode, single file the rest of the race. It was a typical daytime race, nose to tail for 25 laps with no passing.”

Skinner competed in a pair of races in Mississippi the previous weekend, beginning June 21 at Hattiesburg Speedway.

“We were good at Hattiesburg,” he said. “We just started too far back (in 12th). We were able to pass some cars and made it to sixth. I think we could’ve done something if we had started closer to the front.”

Skinner passed plenty of cars the following night at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, but he had to settle for a 10th-place finish due to misfortune.

“Jackson was a heartbreaker,” he said. “I started toward the back of my heat race and didn’t pass enough cars to make much of a difference to get a good starting spot in the feature so I ended up starting 15th.

“I had a great car in the feature and I was up to seventh by Lap 6. But the guy who was running fifth at the time blew up and I was pinned inside of the guy in sixth. I locked up my brakes to try to keep from hitting him and just when my motor died he pulled into the pits. Since I stopped I had to restart at the back in 21st and still made it back to 10th. I really felt like I had a car to make it to the top three.”

Skinner was able to race at North Alabama Speedway on Sunday thanks to the help of a friend.

“I had someone drive my hauler home from Jackson and we left from there for a family vacation at DisneyWorld,” he said. “On our way back home, my wife dropped me off in Tuscumbia on Sunday. My friend, Derek Hagar, washed and maintenanced my car after I raced in Jackson and then drove my hauler to Tuscumbia. His wife even washed my fire suit. It’s great to have friends like that in racing.”

Skinner plans to compete in three USCS Series races this Wednesday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.; Friday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbia, Miss.; and Saturday at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn.
