Wilson Produces Pair of Podiums During Debut at Chatham Speedway

Wilson Produces Pair of Podiums During Debut at Chatham Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CHATHAM, La. (March 11, 2020) – Greg Wilson is pleased with the confidence his team has built recently, particularly after his strongest weekend of the season.

Wilson led his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team to two podium finishes in the same weekend for the first time since June 2015 last Friday and Saturday during his debut at Chatham Speedway.

“We’re more confident that we can be competitive,” he said. “I feel like some of the stuff we did this weekend could help our 410 program so that adds some confidence. I had done some things not in my usual realm of thinking and some of it was good. Our struggle has always been qualifying. Hopefully this will help us down the road in qualifying.”

The weekend began on Friday with Wilson winning a heat race from the third starting position.

“We started off the night and drew pretty good for the way their passing point system works,” he said. “We started third and won the heat race. We started third and ran third in the feature. We weren’t as good as Mark Smith and Dale Howard. We chased those two and never got into traffic where I felt like we could do something. I was mildly happy, especially since we changed so much stuff.”

Wilson continued to run up front on Saturday during the USCS Series weekend finale. He placed third in the dash and won a heat race before capping the night with a season-best runner-up result in the A Main.

“We went back Saturday and changed more stuff around since we were at the same place,” he said. “It was almost like a test session. We used the dash for an extra hot lap session and we were good in the heat. We were good in the feature, but weren’t as good as Mark in the open. On a late restart we kept pace with him for four or five laps, which is something most people haven’t been able to do so that shows we’re getting better.

“Chatham Speedway is a neat place. I hope I get to go back there some time. The people were great and it was a neat race track.”

Wilson plans to tackle a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader this weekend with races on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, and Saturday at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, during the East Texas Lone Star Shootout.
