Williamson Posts Podium Performance During Debut at Southern Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – MILTON, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2021) – Garet Williamson earned his first heat race victory and first podium result of the season last Saturday during his debut at Southern Raceway.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver kicked off a USCS Series doubleheader at the unique oval by taking advantage of a good draw.

“That place is like a beach race it was so sandy,” he said. “It was a racy type of track and was pretty banked. You can get rolling around there pretty good. We were good and had one of the best cars there all weekend.

“The first night we drew good and won our heat race from the front row. It was nice to get our first heat race win of the year. We started on the front row of the feature with Tim Shaffer. He got a good start and shut the door on us in turn one. We ran first and second for most of the race. After one of the yellows Mark Smith got by me. I got back by him, but I hit a rut and he got back by.”

Williamson’s third-place result was his best performance of the season.

His weekend concluded on Sunday at Southern Raceway, where the draw didn’t pan out as well as the previous night.

“It was a day show and we really didn’t know how it’d be,” he said. “We drew the No. 87. We started last – seventh – in our heat race and advanced to fifth, which locked us into the A Main. We came from 13th to sixth and we were rolling well. There were two laps left and they called it during a yellow as we were getting lined up. I think we could have got a top five if they finished the race. We were super good through traffic. I could run wherever; top, bottom, middle.”

Williamson advanced seven positions to finish sixth.

The team plans on taking this weekend off before kicking off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season on March 5-6 at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif.

“It’s nice to get your feet wet before you go straight into points stuff,” he said in reference to racing in Florida four times this month. “We have the confidence rolling.”
