USCS ASPHALT THUNDER CHAMPIONSHIP STILL
UP FOR GRABS

The 2004 United Sprint Car Series Asphalt Thunder Championship is still up for grabs with three events remaining on the schedule. The next USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour event is the Sunbelt Ford Cordele Night of Thunder at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, GA on Saturday night, October 2.

Just 26 points separate point leader Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN, who is the three-time and defending USCS National Champion, and defending USCS Asphalt Thunder Champion and 2000 USCS National Champion Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL.

Gray has two wins, and has finished in the top five in all nine USCS Asphalt Thunder events held this season. In addition to his two pavement victories, the "Bartlett Bullet" has four second-place finishes, two third-place finishes, and one fourth-place finish.

Adams leads the win list with five USCS Asphalt Thunder victories, to go along with eight top five efforts in nine starts that include two second-place finishes, and one third place effort. Adams also has eight fast time honors.

The only race Adams did not finish was the Asphalt Thunder season opener on March 27 in Braselton, GA. The "Malabar Missile" crashed on the first lap
and finished 21st.

Will Ragsdale of Easley, SC is still in the championship hunt. Ragsdale is third in USCS Asphalt Thunder points, just 66 points behind Adams, and 92 points behind Gray. Ragsdale has five top finishes, and seven top ten finishes in nine starts.

Doug "Solid" Gold of Concord, NC is fourth in USCS Asphalt Thunder points after competing in all nine events this season. Gold has one top five finish, and three top ten finishes. Danny "The Hammer" Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL is fifth in USCS Asphalt Thunder points. The 18-year-old college freshman has two top five, and five top ten finishes in eight starts.

R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN is the top USCS Asphalt Thunder Rookie driver, and the 17-year-old high school senior is sixth in points. The "Decatur Raider" has three top ten finishes in eight starts. Chad Allum of Kannapolis, NC is seventh in USCS Asphalt Thunder points with one top five, and four top ten finishes in seven starts.

Jimmy Taylor of Green Pond, SC is eighth in USCS Asphalt Thunder points with five top ten finishes in seven starts. Doug Berryman of Mansfield, OH won the USCS Asphalt Thunder season opener in Braselton, GA and has four top five finishes, and top ten finishes in all of his six starts. Jim Raptis of Marietta, GA rounds out the USCS Asphalt Thunder top ten in points with four top five finishes in five starts.
