ADAMS SWEEPS TUSCUMBIA O'REILLY USCS EVENT

August 19, 2005
TUSCUMBIA, AL -
Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL swept the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series event at North Alabama Speedway Friday night by winning the 30-lap feature race wire-to-wire, winning the Engler Machine and Tool first 10-lap heat race, drawing the zero to take the K&N Filters Pole Award, and winning the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash.

In all of his events, Adams led every lap in the Milk Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott, and his feature race victory was his 11th of the season.  The victory was the 85th O'Reilly USCS career win for the "Malabar Missile," and the 125th feature race win overall since the 2000 season.  Adams also took over the point lead in the O'Reilly USCS Mid-South Thunder Tour point standings.

The 1999 O'Reilly USCS National Champion Marshall Skinner of West Memphis, AR finished second in the Parts Plus Maxim/Ott.  "The Lawman" stayed within a few car-lengths of Adams during the first half of the race, but by lap 20, Adams pulled out to a full straightaway lead over Skinner, and held it to the checkered flag.

Danny "The Hammer" Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL took the third spot in the Martin Structures, Inc./Food Grade Transport Schnee/ZRE.  Mike Ward of Memphis, TN came back from an opening lap tangle to finish fourth in the AMC Maxim/McCarver.

The defending and four-time O'Reilly USCS National Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN came from the 14th starting spot to finish fifth in the C&B Mushrooms/Wendy's Maxim/Wesmar.  Lee Sorrell of Horn Lake, MS made his 2005 O'Reilly USCS debut a successful one with a sixth-place effort in the Hinchman Indy Maxim/Ostrich.

Mike McElya of Bartlett, TN started 17th in the Pyles Paving J&J/Sikes, and finished seventh to earn the Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award.  Phillip Faulkner of Atoka, TN took the eighth spot in the A-1 Door Pro Lite/Cajun.

Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL finished ninth in the Independent Printing Shaw/Ott, and was the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race.  Tiffany also won the ButlerBuilt second ten-lap heat race.  Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL rounded out the top ten in the Milk Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott.

The race got off to a wild start, when a five-car tangle in turn three of the first lap sent three car flipping.  Ricky Stenhouse Jr. of Olive Branch, MS in the Fast Effects J&J/Dynotech, Hunter Schuerenberg of Sikeston, MO in the Minor's Harley-Davidson Maxim/Foxco, and Lee Moore of Tuscaloosa, AL in the Crankshaft Specialists Eagle/Moore all got upside-down.

Ward and Buster Dickerson of Caledonia, MS in the Rex's Rentals J&J/Dickens were also involved.  All drivers walked away uninjured, but only Ward was able to continue, and had to start at the tail of the field for the complete restart.

Adams grabbed the point on the restart form the pole followed by Tiffany, Martin, Skinner, and Sorrell.  Skinner drove around Martin for the third spot in turn four on lap two.  Kenny Coke of Olive Branch, MS spun the Bost Auto Sales BuiltWiser/Dynotech in turn one on lap four to bring out the second caution flag of the race.

During the caution period, Tiffany stalled on the front straightaway. Tiffany was able to restart, but had to go to the back of the pack.  Adams led Skinner, Martin, Sorrell, and Gray to the green flag.  Gray blasted out of his 14th starting spot to move into the top five in the first three laps of the race.

Ward was another driver on the move after going to the back after the first lap wreck.  Ward moved into the sixth position on lap six, and Gray got around Sorrell to take over the fourth spot.  Ward advance to the fifth position by passing Sorrell on lap ten, and then drove past Gray for the fourth spot on lap 19.

With ten laps to go, Adams pulled away from Skinner, as the top five cars were spread out among each other in lapped traffic.

The O'Reilly USCS now moves to Garnertown Speedway in Luray, TN for an event paying both National and Mid-South Thunder Tour Regional points on Saturday night.
