O'REILLY USCS LANIER NATIONAL SPEEDWAY ASPHALT THUNDER EVENT STILL ON FOR SATURDAY NIGHT

BRASELTON, GA - The O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Asphalt Thunder event at Lanier National Speedway is still on for Saturday night, despite several Southeastern tracks and sanctioning bodies canceling events due to the "gasoline scare."

"We're still a go for our race on Saturday night, and we've been driving around the Atlanta area, and gasoline and diesel fuel is available at prices nowhere near as high as the media has been reporting," O'Reilly USCS Founder and President Pete Walton said.  "There have been a few stations trying to charge as much as $6.00 a gallon for unleaded gas, but the media has blown that all out of proportion."

Lanier National Speedway General Manager Stan Narrison reports that gasoline and diesel fuel is also available around the track, located northeast of Atlanta.

"There seems to be plenty of gas around the track, and I don't think fans coming to the races Saturday will have any problems," Narrison said.  "In fact, we heard today that the Governor wants to suspend the state gas tax to help bring prices down."

This event is expected to bring the top winged outlaw sprint car drivers from at least eight states to Lanier National Speedway.  Saturday night's winged outlaw sprint car action will feature a full program that includes hot laps, qualifying, heat races and a 40-lap A-main event.
