BRECHT BATTLES TO O'REILLY USCS DIXIE WIN

October 28, 2005
WOODSTOCK, GA -
Mike Brecht of Leipsic, OH came off the fourth turn of the 25th and final lap of the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series A-Main at Dixie Speedway with four other cars, and took a spectacular win Saturday night in the All-Star Plumbing Heating and Air Eagle/Hampshire.

Brecht battled all race long with the defending and four-time O'Reilly USCS National Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN, with the two swapping the lead twice on the 3/8-mile clay oval.  Gray tried to make one last move on the final lap, but ended up scraping the fourth turn wall in his C&B Mushrooms/Goodson Farms Maxim/Wesmar.

Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville, OH drove the Woodring Racing JEI Performance/Hampshire home to a second-place finish, and Greg Wilson of Benton Ridge, OH made it a Buckeye State sweep by taking the third spot in the Tim Hogan's Carpets Maxim/Hampshire.

Lee Sowell of Horn Lake, MS finished fourth in the Hinchman Indy Maxim/Ostrich, and was the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race.  Gray recovered to round out the top five.

The O'Reilly USCS National point leader Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL salvaged a rough night with a sixth-place effort in the Milk Movers, Inc./Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott.  Adams won the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash, but spun twice in his heat race.  Adams started 14th in the B-Main, and finished second, which gave him the 18th starting spot for the main event.

Adams' run from 18th to sixth in the A-Main earned him the Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award.  Josh Weller of Mertztown, PA finished seventh in the Wave Tech Associates J&J/Ott, and 12-lap B-Main winner Curt Michael of Ocean View, DE took the eighth spot in the BK Trucking J&J/Ott.

Ryan Myers of Eldorado, OH was ninth in the Garrett-Myers Farms Clincher/Garrett-Myers, and Johnny Bridges of Cherryville, NC rounded out the top ten in the C&B Mushrooms/Stainless Fabricators J&J/Bridges Ford.

Brecht earned the K&N Pole Award when Engler Machine and Tool first 10-lap heat race winner Doug Day of Winder, GA drew an eight. Brecht led the first lap followed by Gray, Sowell, Jacobs, and Wilson.

The red flag came out on lap two when Ron Blair of Troy, OH barrel-rolled his Double Jay Construction Maxim/Blair through the first turn, collecting Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL in the Independent Printing Shaw/Ott.  Neither driver was injured in the incident.  The field went right back to yellow on the restart when Andy McElhannon of Hernando, MS hit the third turn wall in the Hensly Suzuki Stealth/Gaerte.

When the green flag waved again, Gray began to pressure Brecht for the lead, while Jacobs got underneath Sowell for the third spot coming off the fourth turn.  Gray passed Brecht for the lead on lap seven, but the move was negated when Jeremy Scott of Franklin, GA flipped the Scott's Plumbing Pro Lite/June Bug in turn two to bring out the red flag.

Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL was also collected in the crash, and neither driver was injured.  Brecht was reinstated as the leader for the restart, as the field went back to the last completed lap.  The restart saw Brecht leading Gray, Jacobs, Sowell, Wilson, Weller, R.J. Johnson of Decatur, TN, Bridges, Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL, Brian Maddox of Brandon, FL.

Adams blasted his way into the top ten on the restart, but the field went back to caution on lap eight when Day spun the Gotta Race Eagle/Dingler down the backstretch.  Brecht was still on the point for the restart followed by Gray, Jacobs, Sowell, Wilson, Weller, Johnson in the Tinsley Engineering/Georgia Performance Graphics J&J/ZRE, Adams, Bridges, and Maddox in the Concrete Science/Crawford Tire Shaw/Central Florida Machine.

Wilson got by Sowell for the fourth spot on the restart, and Adams passed Johnson for the seventh position.  By lap 10, Gray was racing Brecht side-by-side for the lead.  The lead duo reached heavy lapped traffic on lap 15, as Jacobs began to close from the third spot.  Gray dove to the bottom of the track in turn two to take the lead from Brecht coming off the second turn on lap 16.

Brecht came right back on lap 22 to retake the lead from Gray in turn four.  Gray reloaded to take a last lap shot at Brecht for the win, but Jacobs, Wilson and Sowell had closed in.  Gray stepped to the outside of Brecht in turn four, and the two cars made contact.  Gray drifted high and grazed the fourth turn wall.

With Gray hung out to dry, Jacobs and Wilson stacked up to make it a four-wide run to the checkered flag.  Brecht hung on for the win followed by Jacobs, and Wilson.  Sowell was able to sneak under Gray for the fourth spot, while he regained control of his race car.

Wilson won the ButlerBuilt second ten-lap heat race, while Maddox took the Koolbeans Trophies third ten-lap heat race, and Jacobs won the O'Reilly Auto Parts fourth ten-lap heat race.  Stephen Darvalics of Venice, FL finished 14th in the CineMoves Shaw/Gaerte to earn the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race Award.

The O'Reilly USCS will return to Dixie Speedway on Saturday night for the "Dixie Double" - a pair of 25-lap A-Mains that could earn a single driver a $10,000 bonus.

The first feature will start straight up, with the second feature being completely inverted from the finish of the first main event.  If a driver came double up from the 22nd starting spot in the second feature, it will be worth a $10,000 bonus.
