November 27, 2005
Atlanta, Ga - O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder star Kevin Swindell from
Bartlett, Tennessee made enough of an impression not on only paved oval fans, drivers and the media in the Southeast but on the voting members of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame 360 sprint car poll to be nominated as one of the five finalists for the NSCHOF 2005 Rookie of the Year honors in the 360 winged sprint car category. The sixteen year old Swindell only competed ten times with the O'Reilly USCS, but won the event on five of those occasions.
The third generation sprint car driver also registered nine top fives and set the fastest qualifying lap nine times as well. Seven of those fast times were for new all time track records at the ovals. The only out of top ten finish the rookie had was for a DNF early in the season. In
addition he finished in second place in the prestigious Short Track Nationals for 360 sprint cars at I-30 Speedway on October 29th.
Kevin Swindell is the son of World of Outlaws sprint car legend Sammy Swindell and wife Amy Swindell, whi is the sister of four time O'Reilly USCS Champion Terry Gray. The young Swindell spent the majority of his 2005 season racing on dirt with the World of Outlaws 410 sprint car series. Kevin previously raced quarter midgets, Go Karts and 600cc mini-sprints successfully.
