Martin Hammers out NSCHOF 360 "Wild Card" nomination after strong O'Reilly USCS finish
November 29, 2005
Atlanta, Ga - Nineteen year old National Sprint Car Hall of Fame 360
sprint car "Wild Card" driver of the year nominee, Danny "Hammer" Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida pounded up and down the highway in 2005 with persistence over the long O'Reilly USCS (51 race) season. He was a young man on a mission, chasing the National Championship in possibly the most competitive 360 winged sprint car series in the Nation over the 2005 season. Martin drove his Martin Structures #00 in races with the series on both dirt and paved ovals.
When the O'Reilly USCS season ended at North Alabama Speedway on November 12th, Martin's scorecard showed three (3) victories (two on asphalt and one on dirt). He had twenty-five (25) finishes in the top five positions and thirty-five (35) times Martin scored finishes in the top ten. This performance gave Martin his second National Championship runner-up finish in two seasons with the O'Reilly USCS. This time it was behind the Nations winningest 360 sprint car driver Kenny Adams of Malabar, Florida.
The talented Native American teenager also garnered a third place finish
in the O'Reilly USCS Southern Thunder regional series, a fourth place finish in the O'Reilly Mid-South Thunder regional points, a fifth place finish in the O'Reilly Asphalt Thunder Tour standings and a sixth place in the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder region. While leading several other A-main events and looking to have things well under control for the win, mechanical failures lead to incomplete events for the hard working young driver. Martin also garnered the Speedmart Young Guns championship for the top series driver under twenty-five years old who gathered the most National points.
Martin joins 2005 O'Reilly USCS Champion, Kenny Adams and fellow O'Reilly USCS competitor, seventeen year old Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. from Olive Branch, Mississippi and talented New York teenager Bryan Howland as nominees for 2005 NSCHOF Wild Card 360 driver of the year. The award, which is described as the driver who has most impressed with their 2005 performances, is voted on by a panel of NSCHOF pollsters.
