Gray over Danny Martin, Jr. by 6 points for O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder regional title
Atlanta, GA - Veteran sprint car champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee edged out Hoosier Tire Young Guns champion, Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida by only six points or by just a scant three feature race positions after sixteen events to claim his first O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series Carolina Thunder regional sprint car series title. The series included events on both dirt and paved ovals in Eastern Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and East Tennessee .
Gray won three times in the Carolina regional series competition. He won once on dirt at Golden Isles Speedway on April 21st. He then won both ends of a double feature race at Lanier National Speedway on Labor Day weekend. Martin won five times, but the difference came from
Another Young Gun, twenty-one year old Tom Winegardner, Jr. from Pierson, Florida and his team-mate and Dad, Tom Winegardner also from Pierson, Florida finished in a tie for the third position in the final point standings. Seventeen year-old hot-shoe Matt Tiffany from Daytona, Beach, Florida rounded out the top five. Tiffany had one win on the season in the series at Southern National Speedway on asphalt. His win there was after he started ninth and drove to the front in his primary dirt ride.
Nineteen year-old Stephen Darvalics from Venice, Florida finished sixth in the standings. Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, AR finished seventh although not attending the paved track events. Skinner won the August 19th event at Atomic Speedway. Second-generation sprint car driver, Matt Linder from Hoschton, Georgia finished in the eighth position. 2005 National Champion, Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida followed in ninth place and Nineteen year-old Ryan Myers from Eaton, Ohio completed the top ten in the standings for the third year regional series.
