Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout on tap at Garnertown Speedway this weekend!

April 12, 2006
Jackson, Tennessee -
For IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR THE O"REILLY USCS:

Luray, TN - Garnertown Speedway near Luray, Tennessee will host the first annual Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout this Friday and Saturday nights. The event honoring Mid-South open wheel racing legend Clarence "Hooker" Hood from Memphis, Tennessee is headlined by two full nights of racing action by the cars and stars of the O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series. Hood, known as the "Tennessee Tornado", was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1999 after a legendary racing career that stretched from the Fifties until the late Eighties when he terrorized oval tracks all over the Mid-South area winning hundreds upon hundreds of races in the Fifties, Sixties, Seventies and Eighties.

In his career best season Hood won 57 of 63 feature races entered 1967. He was so legendary that another Memphis legend the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, once imitated him in a big way. Presley placed Hood's race car number and the name of his dog, Rawhide on the nose of a boat used in one of his movies. Hood had always emblazoned the dog's name and his number in small size on the nose of his famous number 99 race cars he built and drove. Hood raced and also won on numerous occasions at the old Garnertown Speedway located about two miles up Garnertown Road (Highway 200) from the present track.

Sprint car drivers from at least seven states are entered in the two day event that will feature a full program of O'Reilly USCS winged outlaw sprint car racing action each night that includes the Lucas Oil Power Dash, qualifying heats, B-Main and A-Main events both nights. Also on the racing card both nights are full racing programs for the new USCS Open Wheel Modified series, the Garnertown Speedway Street Stocks and the Hummer Cup Cars will contest qualifying races #3 and #4 for their November 4th $2,000 to win Hummer 100.

Garnertown Speedway is located midway between Jackson and Lexington directly on state Highway 200. For directions visit www.garnertownspeedway.com or call 731-614-0143 or 404-886-5913. For info on the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series visit www.uscsracing.com
