"The Lawman" Skinner confiscates the loot in Round One of the O'Reilly USCS Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout
April 14, 2006 Luray, TN - Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas raced to victory in round one of the 1st annual Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout sanctioned by the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series. Skinner bested a of cars field from five states for the win in the first night of the two- day event. Skinner, who was the 1999 O'Reilly USCS Dirt Cup Champion, led every lap in his #26 Parts Plus /Dyno Tech powered J&J Auto Racing after grabbing the lead in turn one from his outside front row starting position. Skinner beat twenty-year old Pierson, Florida hot-shoe Tom Winegardner, Jr. to turn one on the initial start and never looked back.

Defending O'Reilly USCS Champion Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida , eighteen year old Mid-South young gun Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. from Olive Branch, Mississippi, the pole-starter Winegardner and four time O'Reilly USCS champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee chased Skinner for the entire twenty-five lap contest. They crossed the finish line in that order. The race was only plagued by one caution on lap nine that bunched the field behind Skinner who seemed to be in the "drive it like you stole it" mode.
On lap two Kenny Adams leaped into second place past Winegardner, Jr. from his outside second row starting position and tried to chase down Skinner. Then on lap four Ricky Stenhouse drove low into turn three under Winegardner to move in behind Adams and join the quest to chase down the leader with Winegardner in fourth. Paul Hart from Troy, Tennessee was chasing Winegardner and trying to battle off Terry Gray who started eighth for the first nine laps. After the lap nine restart Gray got past Hart and into the top five on lap ten. He battled Winegardner for fourth the final sixteen laps to no avail.
Lee Sowell from Nesbitt, Mississippi who started ninth finished in sixth. Sowell challenged for top five status after passing Hart who finished seventh in his first O'Reilly USCS start. The Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award went to Mike Ward from Memphis, Tennessee who passed seven cars to advance from fifteenth to eighth. Sixteen-year old Matt Tiffany from Daytona Beach, Florida was ninth and Danny "Hammer" Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida rounded out the top ten.
Tom Winegardner, Jr. was impressive winning the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat Race and then captured the K&N Filters Pole Award by drawing a zero inversion pill placing himself on the pole. Skinner gained a front row starting position along beside Winegardner, Jr. via his win in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat Racer also over Adams and Stenhouse.
Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. won the Lucas Oil Power Dash that pits the top six cars from the previous O'Reilly USCS event in a six car / six lap Shootout. Brad Bowden from Hernando, Mississippi was the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. Stenhouse was also the Hoosier Tire Young Gun of the Race.
