Sullivan captures second USCS Open Wheel Modified Feature at Garnertown
April 14, 2006 Lurray, TN - Jason Sullivan from Raegan, Tennessee won the twenty lap USCS Open Wheel Modified Series Main Event Friday night at Garnertown Speedway in Lurray, Tennessee. Sullivan was the winner of the March 18th inaugural 50-lap USCS race at the same track. Sullivan topped a field of twenty-six USCS Open Wheel Modifieds from three states for the win. Sullivan started next to T.J. Herndon who earned the pole after winning the first heat race. The finish may have had a different result had Herndon not left the event on lap ten with a broken crankshaft while leading with Sullivan on his back bumper in pursuit.

The race saw lots of side-by-side racing in the lead pack all night long. Sullivan had to fend off Andy Tennison from Memphis, Tennessee for the rest of the race, holding down the top spot through three cautions. Tennison stayed two to three car lengths out of the reach and was able to gallop home to the Xtreme Race Graphics victory lane taking the $800 top prize with him. Tennison, Jamie Hard from Bartlett, Tennessee, Brandon Poppenheimer from Memphis, Tennessee, and Shane Harris from Humboldt, Tennessee rounded out the top five.
The evening started with Junior Lemmings from Jackson, Tennessee winning the USCS Open Wheel Modified Power Dash. Then Herndon, Sullivan, and Hard won the 8 lap heat races. Herndon's continuing bad luck earned him the Tennison Bros. Sheet Metal Hard Luck Award for the night. Richard Rose from Oakland, Tennessee started twenty-first after flipping in his heat race and finished in tenth place to garner the Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award for the event.
The next USCS Open Wheel Modified points event is during the Hooker Hood Sprint Car Shootout at Garnertown Speedway in Lurray, Tennessee on Saturday night April 15. The biggest event in Garnertown Speedway history will feature a full O'Reilly USCS Sprint Car racing program plus the star-studded USCS Open Wheel Modified, Street Stock, and Hummer Cup divisions.
