Management in 2006

January 22, 2006
Jackson, Tennessee -
Garnertown Speedway will open for the 2006 season with a tentative “ SPECIAL EVENTS ONLY ” schedule of eight events over twelve nights. The track owned by Jackson businessman Moss Miller will operate under the management of the United Speed Contest Sanction. The United Speed Contest Sanction is the parent of the O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series. The United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com which celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2006 has sanctioned a number of successful winged outlaw sprint car events at the Garnertown Speedway since 2000 and throughout the Southeast since 1997.

The initial Garnertown Speedway racing event of the 2006 season will be the first annual GARNERTOWN SPRING 100 announcing the arrival of Spring and serving as the unofficial kick-off of the Mid-South racing season on the third weekend of March. The GARNERTOWN SPRING 100 is a two-night event on Friday, March 17th and Saturday, March 18th contesting 100 Laps of feature racing headlined by a 50-lap Grand Finale race for the new USCS Open Wheel Outlaw Modified series . The season opening event will also feature other divisions of stock car racing. Full details on the event are to be announced next week.

Next up on the race card on April 14 th and April 15 th at the Mid-South's fastest clay oval will be the second annual HOOKER HOOD SPRINT CAR CLASSIC featuring the powerful winged outlaw sprint cars of the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series. The event honors the racing career of Mid-South open wheel racing legend, Clarence “Hooker” Hood from Memphis, Tennessee. Hood, nick-named the “Tennessee Tornado” for the way he terrorized the many speedways of the Mid-South for over four decades in the Fifties, Sixties, Seventies and Eighties was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1999. Hood who won 56 features in his career-best season in 1965, raced and won at the old Garnertown Speedway located just a couple of miles East of the present 4/10ths mile clay oval located in Henderson County approximately midway between Jackson and Lexington on Highway 200.

The Speedway will play host to five O'Reilly USCS Outlaw Thunder winged outlaw sprint car special events on April 14th-15th, Monday,May 29th, Monday, July 3rd, Monday, September 4th and a 2-day event on October 6th-7th. Additionally, there will be eleven races for the USCS Open Wheel Outlaw - Modified series. Five of those are on the same dates as the O'Reilly USCS sprint cars. one, possibly two other major special events of various forms are yet to be announced. All events will include the USCS Open Wheel Outlaws - Modified series and stock car racing. On November 3rd and 4th track will host THUNDERBOWL 2006

Garnertown Speedway will also contest a twelve event series for it's own original Hummer Car racing division in 2006. Each of those dates will coincide with the USCS Open Wheel Outlaw Modified dates. The Hummer Cars are pure stock, front-wheel drive, and four-cylinder racing cars. This division offers an economical start-up cost that makes it simple for an entry level racing rookie or really anyone to get into the “Hummer-tainment” action at Garnertown Speedway for less than a $1000.00. Garnertown Speedway track owner, Moss Miller created the class that is now popular at several other area tracks. Each special event race date will include a full racing program in the Hummer Car division at Garnertown Speedway. Each of these Hummer Car events will also serve as a qualifying race for the, $2000.00 to win, first annual “HUMMER 100” (100 lap) FWD4 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP for stock front wheel drive four cylinder stock cars on Saturday, November 4th at 4 p.m.

United Speed Contest Sanction body President, Pete Walton said, ”We are very excited about the possibilities at Garnertown Speedway for the fans and racers alike for the 2006 season. There is going to be some great entertainment at Garnertown in 2006.”

Walton stated that,“ This really gives the United Speed Contest Sanction a lot of flexibility. Number one it gives the O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series a base track in the Mid-South and it also gives the USCS sanctioning body a place to kickoff our new USCS Open Wheel Outlaw Modified division for Open Wheel Modifieds. Garnertown Speedway racers and the West Tennessee fans have seen some great Open Wheel Modified races over the past few years on the high-banked 4/10-mile oval. Walton continued, “And we just expect that to get bigger and better. This is going to be fun for everyone involved.”
