Wayne Reutimann, Sr. scores O'Reilly USCS win at Lanier National Speedway on Saturday

April 30, 2006 Braselton, GA. - After all the talk about the Hoosier Tire"Young Guns" and the youth movement drivers in the O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series, it was experience that lead that way as 60 year-old open wheel veteran Wayne Reutimann, Sr. from Zephyrhills, Florida won the 40-lap O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder feature race at Lanier National Speedway on Saturday night. Reutimann drove his #00 Case Contracting/Rivard GMC Pontiac past the pole-starter, twenty year-old Bryn Gohn from Malabar, Florida entering turn three on lap one and never looked back.

Two other veterans four-time O'Reilly USCS National champ Terry Gray and 1997 National Champion Red Stauffer chased the ageless open wheel legend to the finish line. In the early laps of the race, defending O'Reilly USCS Champion, Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida, chased Reutimann, Sr. through lapped traffic staying just out of reach. It appeared that Adams was setting the stage for a showdown in the final laps, but suddenly on lap twenty-one Adams who had won both of the previous 2006 Asphalt Thunder main events slowed to a halt in turn four. This brought out the yellow flag for the second and final time of the race. Adams exited the race for what was later determined to be a driveline failure.

Gohn who had been running third assumed the runner-up spot for two laps before his team-mate Red Stauffer, who was actually driving Gohn's own dirt mount and CnB Mushroom Farms Fast Qualifier, Terry Gray went by on the backstretch after Gohn made contact with the wall on lap twenty three. On lap twenty-five nineteen year-old Ryan Myers from Eldorado, Ohio passed Gohn who appeared to be having severe handling problems for the fourth position. On lap twenty-seven twenty year-old Danny "Hammer" Martin, Jr. moved past Gohn's suddenly ill-steering ride into the top five.

The battle was on for the runner-up spot between Stauffer and Gray with the two young guns Myers and Martin in tow behind them. Gray slipped past the tire-smoking Stauffer on lap thirty-six and took up the chase after Reutimann, but the cagey veteran was gone towards a victory lane celebration four laps later. This was Reutimann's third O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour win since June 18th of 2005. At the line the final order was Reutimann, Sr. then, Gray in the runner-up spot, Stauffer followed in third, Ryan Myers was fourth and Danny Martin, Jr. completed the top five.

Bryn Gohn headed the next group in sixth, defending O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder Champion, Wayne Reutimann, Jr. from Zephyrhills, Florida nursed a leaking right rear home to finish seventh. He Was followed by 2002 O'Reilly USCS Championship runner-up, Doug Day from Winder, Georgia in Eighth. Veteran, David Thorman from Greenville, South Carolina raced home in ninth and Skeeter Faulconer from Lutz, Florida, who finished seventh in the 2005 National standings rounded out the top ten.

Reutimann endured two cautions that bunched the field behind him, the first on lap two for a grinding crash when Matt Tiffany from Daytona Beach, Florida and Tom Winegardner, Jr. from Pierson, Florida collided entering turn three sending both into the wall. After some anxious moments Winegardner who at first appeared to have a broken leg was able to walk the injury off. Neither driver could continue, Winegardner's mount was totaled and Tiffany's was too badly damaged for a trackside repair. The second was for Adams mechanical failure on lap twenty-one.

The Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award went to Gray who passed six cars in the A-Main. Ryan Myers was awarded the Hoosier Tire Young Gun of the Race (for drivers under 25 years old). The K&N Filters Pole Award recipient was Bryn Gohn. Robbie Skidmore from Tampa, Florida was the Robison Racing Rookie of the Race. Terry Gray was the CnB Mushroom Farms Fast Qualifier with a fast lap of 11.393 seconds around the 3/8 mile paved oval. The ten-lap Engler Tool and Machine First Heat was won by Kenny Adams. The ten-lap ButlerBuilt Second Heat went to Gohn.

The O'Reilly USCS www.uscsracing.com returns to action with the Asphalt Thunder Tour at the half mile paved South Georgia Motorsports Park www.sgmpracing.com in Cecil, GA on Saturday May 13th.
