O'Reilly USCS Gray tunes for O'Reilly USCS Speedweek with Swainsboro Raceway win

Swainsboro, GA - Current O'Reilly Auto Parts / United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com National points leader, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee passed 1999 O'Reilly USCS Dirt Cup titlist Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas on lap twenty of the "Swainsboro Outlaw Shootout" 30 lap O'Reilly USCS USCS A-Main event at Swainsboro Raceway near Swainsboro, Florida on Saturday night to win his third USCS feature of the year. Gray was driving his familiar black #10 Wendy's, C&B Mushroom Farms, B&W Enterprises, LLC, Goodson Farms sponsored, Wesmar powered Maxim winged sprint car.

On the initial start, Skinner won the drag race to turn one with twenty year-old Hoosier Tire Young Gun points leader Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida. Gray who previously had won at the speedway, started in the fourth position and got into the third position going into turn one. He and Brian Maddox from Brandon, Florida both got past Martin exiting turn two and set out after Skinner who looked to be making his first visit to the track a profitable one.




On lap two the #19T of Matt Tiffany from Daytona Beach, Florida and the #19 of Jerry Jones from Clermont, Florida did a synchronized spin at the top of turn two to bring out the first of only two cautions. The race restarted with Skinner at the point followed by Gray in second, Maddox in third, Martin in fourth, Bryn Gohn from Malabar, Florida who started eighth was fifth and seventh-starting Tom Winegardner, Jr from Pierson, Florida was sixth.

Skinner continued to lead the race and began to stretch his lead until encountering lapped traffic in mid-race. This allowed Gray to make up lost ground. On lap twenty Gray went low in turn four and made the pass for the lead in lapped traffic. Skinner stayed close and challenged to re-gain the top spot several times over the next few laps. On lap twenty-four the caution flew again and bunched the field. With no lapped cars between Gray, Skinner and Danny Martin who had fought back into third place. This set up a virtual six-lap dash to the finish line. Skinner and Martin chased Gray, but he used the clear track and clean air to his advantage. At the checkers it was the veteran Gray then Skinner followed by three Hoosier Tire Young Guns rounding out the top five including; Martin, Gohn, and Matt Tiffany who passed Maddox on lap twenty-eight to recover from his earlier misfortunes for a top five finish.

Maddox was sixth flowed by Tom Winegardner, Jr. from Pierson, Florida finished in seventh, Rookie of the Year candidate Bryan Eckley from Tampa, Florida was eighth. Terry Witherspoon from Jacksonville, Florida was ninth and Tom Winegardner, Jr. from Pierson, Florida rounded out the top ten.

Danny Martin, Jr. started off the evening by winning his first Lucas Oil Power Dash of the year. Terry Gray was the winner in the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat. Brian Maddox captured the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Bryn Gohn garnered the events Huggins Cams Hard Charger award for his charge from eighth to fourth place.

Danny Martin also received the evenings JE Pistons Top Guns Award for his third place finish. Bryan Eckley was declared the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. Martin grabbed the K&N Filters Pole Award and also garnered K&N Filters 3rd place feature finisher award. Martin was recognized as the Hoosier Tire Young Gun of the Race, which is awarded to the top-finishing driver under twenty-five years old. The Weld Racing Hard Luck award went to O'Reilly USCS veteran Jerry Jones who was the first car to leave the race.

The next O'Reilly USCS event will be a combined National, Dirt Cup and Mid-South Thunder Tour event at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri.
