Jerrod Hull captures O'Reilly USCS Speedweek 2006 opener at Malden Speedway
May 26, 2006 - For immediate release:
Malden, MO - Jerrod Hull from Sikeston, Missouri won the 30-lap O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com Speedweek 2006 opening round Friday night at Malden Speedway in Malden, Missouri. Hull beat a stellar twenty-eight car field from five states for the win. He led the final 22 laps in the H & H Enterprises # 94 Avenger/Wesmar for the victory. Hull now has a two in a row streak going at Malden Speedway as he won the O'Reilly USCS Mid-South season opener on April 1, 2006 at the Speedway as well.
Hull who started sixth was fourth on lap three after he moved past four-time O'Reilly USCS champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee on lap four into the top three. He then passed Hoosier Tire Young Gun points leader Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida to get into the runner-up spot on lap five. Hull then pursued two-time and defending O'Reilly USCS champion Kenny Adams for three more laps before taking the lead on lap eight. The pair raced through lapped traffic for several laps before Hull started to distance himself from the battle royal being waged in the top five between Adams in second, Martin in third place, Gray fourth and Mike Ward from Memphis, Tennessee who had moved into fifth from a seventh place start.

At the mid point of the race on lap fifteen It was Hull, Adams, Martin, Jr., Ward and now Marshall Skinner who replaced Gray in the top five. By lap twenty Hull was encountering lapped traffic that would slow his momentum with Adams still in second and Mike Ward now charging forward into third and gaining ground on the leaders. Martin followed in fourth and Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas completed the top five. On lap twenty-three Hull lead but Ward got past Adams into the runner-up spot and was using lapped traffic and a high line around the speedway to close on the leader. Skinner moved into the third place on lap twenty-four and was pursuing the leaders. Hull continued his march to victory lane and kept enough lapped cars in between he and Ward for a safe margin at the checkers. Ward followed in second, then Skinner who had faded out of the top five in early stages of the race was third, followed by the early race leader Kenny Adams in fourth and Terry Gray rounded out the top five.
Raymond Stull from Coldwater, Mississippi drove from his seventeenth place feature race starting position into sixth place. Danny Martin was seventh. Another Hoosier Tire Young Gun, Lee Sowell from Hernando, Mississippi was eighth, Rookie of the Year candidate Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas bagged a top ten finish in ninth place and Kenny Coke from Olive Branch, Mississippi rounded out the top ten.
In a tribute to the competitiveness of the field of cars assembled, twenty-one of the twenty-two starters in the 30-lap A-main event finished the race. Eleven cars finished on the lead lap with not a single car more than one lap down. The race was slowed only once by a caution period on lap two for an incident involving three cars.
Danny Martin, Jr. won the Lucas Oil Power Dash. Adams won the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat Race. Tom Winegardner, Sr. from Pierson, Florida won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat Race. Danny Martin, Jr. also captured the FSR Racing Products Third Heat and the JE Pistons Fourth Heat Race went to Marshall Skinner.
Raymond Stull won the 10 lap B-Main and additionally garnered the events Huggins Cams Hard Charger award for his charge from seventeenth to sixth place in the 30-lap A-Main event. Derek Hagar was the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. Kenny Adams snagged the K&N Filters Pole Award.
