Martin goes to three in a row with O'Reilly USCS win at Dixie Speedway

September 9, 2006 Woodstock, GA - O'Reilly USCS Hoosier Tire Young Gun points leader, Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida captured his third O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com Outlaw Thunder Tour feature race win in a row by winning the 25-lap O'Reilly USCS feature at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia on Saturday night. Martin bested a field comprised of twenty-two drivers from nine states in the thirty-seventh event of the series 10th Anniversary Season. The apparently red-hot Martin also ran his O'Reilly USCS feature win total to six for the 2006 season.

Martin who is in second place in the series National point standings and leads the Hoosier Tire Young Guns point standings for drivers under twenty-five years-old started in the second position in the race outside the front row with 2005 O'Reilly USCS Rookie of the Year, Bryn Gohn from Malabar, Florida. Gohn got the jump on Martin on the initial start and led the first seven laps before being trapped behind a lapped car. Martin charged past him into the lead at that point taking 1999 O'Reilly USCS Champion, Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas with him past Gohn.

The lead pack of Martin, Skinner and Gohn was racing hard through lapped traffic until lap nine when the cars of Terry Witherspoon from Jacksonville, Florida and Brandon, McLain of Indian trails, North Carolina tangled and the results sent McLain high in the air and flipping. He landed upside down on the turn two wall and into the fence. Both drivers were determined to be okay, but their evenings were ended.

After recing resumed, on lap ten, Gohn's teammate, defending O'Reilly USCS Champion, Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida slipped by Gohn and took up the chase for the lead duo. On lap thirteen four-time series champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee moved into the top four and on lap fourteen second generation sprint car star Matt Linder from Hoschton, Georgia moved into the fifth spot behind Gray.

A lap twenty caution for Doug Day's stalled mount bunched the field behind the twenty year-old Martin on the re-start for the final five laps. Marshall Skinner challenged briefly but to no avail over the final five laps. At the finish line, Skinner was the runner-up, Kenny Adams finished in the third position followed by Terry Gray in fourth and Matt Linder rounded out the top five.

Nineteen year-old Ryan Myers from Eaton, Ohio who started in the twelfth position rallied to finish in the sixth place. Bryn Gohn was seventh. Chris Hill from Wedowee, Alabama and 2004 O'Reilly USCS Rookie of the Year R.J. Johnson from Decatur, Tennessee were both paid for eighth position in a finish too close to call until race videos can be reviewed. Second year driver Shane Nelson from Chattanooga, Tennessee rounded out the top ten finishers.

Kenny Adams started off the night's racing action by winning the six-lap Lucas Oil Power Dash. His team-mate Bryn Gohn won the 10- lap Engler Tool and Machine First Heat Race. Then eventual feature winner Danny Martin, Jr. won the 10-lap Butlerbuilt Second Heat Race. The all time leading series career feature winner, Kenny Adams also captured the JE Pistons Third Heat Race.

Bryn Gohn was the recipient of the K&N Filters Pole Award. Ryan Myers garnered the events Huggins Cams Hard Charger award for his charge from twelfth to sixth. Rookie Darren Orth also advance six positions from eighteenth to twelfth and was awarded the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race award.

A caution flew on the first lap of the first heat race when Tom Winegardner, Sr. who is in fourth place in the National point standings, was involved in a minor tangle but nearly turned over. He then complained of back pain and was meticulously extracted from the car by track and meical personel. He was transported to Atlanta Medical Center and apparently suffered several broken vertebrae from the incident.

The next O'Reilly USCS www.uscsracing.com National points event is set for Friday, September 22nd as the O'Reilly USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour invades Malden Speedway www.maldenspeedway.com in Malden Missouri for the 5th annual Missouri State Championship Race.
