Kenny Adams picks up O'Reilly USCS career win #97 in Fall Brawl at East Bay



November 04, 2006, Tampa, FL - Defending O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series champion , Kenny Adams from Malabar, Florida won the 30-lap 5th Annual O'Reilly USCS Fall Brawl at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Florida on Saturday night after a hard fought battle with persistent O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series Hoosier Tire Young Gun, Tom "T.J "Winegardner from Pierson Florida. It was Adams fourth win of the 2006 season in the series and his ninety-seventh career win in the O'Reilly USCS. It was alsoAdams second Fall Brawl title as he also won the 2003 Finale.

Winegardner started beside Adams in the outside of the front row and followed Adams for the first seven laps before driving past the cagey veteran on lap eight and lead the race for five laps before a daring move by Adams put him back in front on lap thirteen. The following lap 2006 East Bay Raceway track champion, Daryl Smith from Gibsonton, Florida crashed hard into the first-turn wall bringing out the red flag. Smith was running third at the time after starting thirteenth and surging past a strong field of front-runners in a quest for his first O'Reilly USCS Fall Brawl title.

Winegardner never relented and was within reach of the leader the entire race chasing him for the whole thirty laps showing Adams the nose of his #11 WRP - J and J Racing mount several times again as the duo charged through lapped traffic. At the same time, Winegardner spent much of the later half of the race fending off Friday night's winner Sport Allen from Pinellas Park, Florida. The former track and Fall Brawl champion, Allen, had his own spot to defend as Sam Hafertepe from Sunnyvale, Texas who started eighth battled his way into the top five on lap eleven and into the fourth spot by the race's mid-point. Adam and the other three drivers in the lead pack. Crossed the finish line separated by less than ten car lengths total. Four time O'Reilly USCS champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded out the top five.Gray had started sixth.

1999 O'Reilly USCS Champ, Marshall Skinner who started twelfth and finished sixth. Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida rallied from the rear of the field after a lap one spin to finish seventh. East Bay raceway Park regular, Danny Jones from Tampa followeedd in eighth place. Second generation sprint car racer, Matt Linder from Hoschton, Georgia and rookie Matt Kurtz from Jacksonville, Florida rounded out the top ten.

Terry Gray kicked off the evening by winning the six-lap Lucas Oil Power Dash comprised of the top six cars from the previous evening. Tom Winegardner, Jr. was the winner in the Engler Tool and Machine First Heat. Kenny Adams captured the Butlerbuilt Second Heat race. East Bay regular Danny Jones from Tampa, Florida won the FSR Racing Products Third Heat. Stephen Darvalics from Venice, Florida won the 12 lap B-Main event.

Adams grabbed the K&N Filters Pole Award after high qualifying points man, Terry Gray drew him to the pole with a six-inversion draw. Adams also received the evenings JE Pistons Top Guns Award for his win. 15 year-old Matt Kurtz from Jacksonville, Florida was declared the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. Marshall Skinner garnered the events Huggins Cams Hard Charger after starting 12th and passing six cars. Tom Winegardner, Jr. was recognized as the Hoosier Tire Young Gun of the Race, which is awarded to the top-finishing driver under twenty-five years old. The Weld Racing Hard Luck award went to 2006 East Bay track champion, Daryl Smith from Gibsonton, Florida.

The next O'Reilly USCS National points event and O'Reilly Mid -South Thunder points event will be next weekend on Friday and Saturday night in the series season finale at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. That event includes trhe Lucas Oil Super Power Dash $5000 to win 10 car 10 lap shootout plus the 40 lap O'Reilly USCS Battle at the Bullring worth a possible 444000 to the winner.
