Wayne Johnson's wins O'Reilly USCS Speedweek 2007 Round #4 with late race pass
May 28, 2007, Atwood, Tennessee - Wayne Johnson from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma made a late race pass on Benton, Arkansas sprint car ace Tim Crawley in lapped traffic to win the 30-lap O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series www.uscsracing.com Speedweek 2007 Round Four event on Memorial Day Monday at Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tennessee. Johnson's third O'Reilly USCS win of the season came over a field of 24 drivers from seven states.
Crawley lead the first twenty-seven laps before Wayne Johnson made the pass to grab the lead in turn four of lap eight as the leaders were encountering lapped traffic. An outstanding driving performance by eighteen-year- old second generation driver Brad Bowden from Hernando, Mississippi netted him the third and final podium spot. Bowden had passed Wayne Johnson for the runner-up spot on lap seven but W. Johnson got back around the teenager on lap eleven to put himself into contention for the win. Gary Wright from Hooks, Texas raced home in fourth place. 2006 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Driver of the Year, Jason Johnson from Eunice, Louisiana rounded out the top five.
Past O'Reilly USCS Champion, Marshall Skinner from West Memphis, Arkansas came home in the sixth position. Sixteen-year-old 2006 O'Reilly USCS Rookie of the Year, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas finished in the seventh spot followed by three-time series Championship runner-up, Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida. Wade Oliver from Southaven, Mississippi finished in the ninth spot and another Hoosier tire young Gun, eighteen-year-old Don Young from Bartlett, Tennessee rounded out the top ten in the tough field.
Defending O'Reilly USCS National Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee captured the evening's Lucas Oil Power Dash. Wayne Johnson won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat Race. Tim Crawley won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat Race. Brad Bowden captured the JE Pistons Third Heat Race.
Terry Gray won the 12-lap B-Main. Chris Williams garnered the events Huggins Cams Hard Charger award for his charge from 22nd place into thirteenth place and was additionally recognized as the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. Brad Bowden was recognized as the Hoosier Tire Young Gun of the Race, which is awarded to the top-finishing driver under twenty-five years old. Ronny Howard from Southaven, Mississippi snagged the K&N Filters Pole Award. The JE Pistons Top Gun Award went to the winner Wayne Johnson.
The next O'Reilly USCS National points event and O'Reilly USCS Mid-South Thunder points event is the Speedweek 2007 Round #5 at Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee on Thursday night, May 31st. Then the tour visits Camden Speedway in Camden, Tennessee on Friday night June 1st before the grand finale in the "Columbus Clash" at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on Saturday night June 2nd.
