Mallett Posts Pair of Top 10s in Mississippi to Garner USCS Winter Heat Title

Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBUS, Miss. (March 5, 2018) – Jordon Mallett continued his consistency last weekend when he posted two more top-10 finishes to maintain the USCS Series national points lead.

“Consistency is key,” he said. “Of course I would like to have a couple of wins under our belt, but with a new car that we’re still working the kinks out of I’m learning what it wants. We’re picking up speed every weekend. I’m not displeased with being in the top 10 every night. We’re in a pretty good position to start the year.”

The action began last Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where Mallett won both the dash and a heat race after starting on the pole in both races.

“I thought we put ourselves in position and were set up pretty good, but we didn’t make the feature inversion so we had to start seventh,” he said. “We worked our way up right away, then fell back midway through and then settled into where we finished. We just weren’t where we needed to be. We were good all night to that point. I don’t feel like we were worse in the main event. We just needed to be better.”

The seventh-place finish guided Mallett into Magnolia Motor Speedway, which hosted the USCS Series on Saturday. Mallett finished third in the dash and sixth in a heat race during the first half of the night.

“I couldn’t get the car balanced and wasn’t happy with it,” he said. “In the dash and the heat race I didn’t feel like it was where it needed to be. That relegated us to a B Main. We backed up and started the night over before the B Main. The car was better so we worked off that for the feature.”

Mallett advanced from fourth to third place in the consolation race to garner a transfer into the main event. He then rallied from 17th to ninth in the A Main to keep his top-10 streak alive.

“We were pretty good,” he said. “I wish we would have made a few more changes because we could have been a top-five car. It was a fun little race. The track was rough and slick. It was get on the wheel and make it happen. As hard as that track was I’m not going to complain with a top 10.”

In addition to continuing to lead the USCS National championship standings, Mallett scored the Winter Heat title after garnering the most overall points through the first six races of the season.

He will be off for the next couple of weeks before USCS Series competition resumes March 24 at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala.
