Mallett Captures Top Fives During Two Wild Weekends of Competition

Mallett Captures Top Fives During Two Wild Weekends of Competition

Inside Line Promotions – GASTONIA, N.C. (April 11, 2018) – Jordon Mallett has had an eventful last two weeks of racing.

It all began on March 31 when he tackled a local sprint car show at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

“We were running late already, but then we got ready to load the car and the ramp door wouldn’t come down,” he said. “By the time we got that issue resolved we showed up after they’d run heat races and everything. We didn’t get there until about 30 minutes before the feature. We started at the tail of the field and came up to fourth. We had a car that could have won, but we ran out of laps.”

The charge from 20th to fourth marked Mallett’s second top five of the season and the oddness of that night was surpassed last Friday at Carolina Speedway, which hosted a USCS Series event.

“We had high expectations,” he said. “That’s one of my favorite tracks. With weather coming in they didn’t prep the track like normal. It was dusty in hot laps and that continued throughout the night. It was so dusty I couldn’t see the nose wing on the car.”

Mallett won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“We had an awesome start,” he said. “We were leading before the flag stand. Everything was great. We came flying down the backstretch and into the corner. The next thing I knew they were yelling on the RACEiver that we had to stop. All the cars had piled up in turn four and the track was blocked from one side to the other.”

The race resumed and Mallett didn’t get as good of a start the second time.

“We got shuffled and fell to fifth,” he said. “That’s where we rode the whole race. It was a survival deal.”

Mallett ended with a fifth-place finish.

Saturday’s USCS Series event at Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, S.C., rained out.

Mallett, who continues to lead the USCS Series National championship standings, will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla.

“We feel good about it,” he said. “We have a solid notebook from when we were there earlier this year.”
