Mallett Hustles Top-10 Car Throughout USCS Competition in Carolinas

Inside Line Promotions – LANCASTER, S.C. (July 25, 2018) – Jordon Mallett picked up two more top-10 finishes last weekend as he continues to chase his second straight USCS Series title.

The native of Greenbrier, Ark., finished sixth on Friday at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., and he charged from the tail of the field to run ninth in just three laps on Saturday at Lancaster Speedway.

The weekend began with Mallett finishing second in the dash and third in a heat race on Friday. He started ninth in the 30-lap main event, which served as the First Round of the 5th annual Joe & Jim McLain Summer Classic. Mallett crossed the finish line sixth and that position earned him a special prize: passes to the World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., in November.

“The track didn’t slow down like we were hoping for where we could move around,” he noted. “Once I got to sixth I knew I would be in the dash the following night so I kind of chilled out there. It was pretty dusty and hard to see so I didn’t want to risk anything. We had a really good car, but just didn’t have a chance to showcase it.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with the Second Round of the Joe & Jim McLain Summer Classic. Unfortunately, Mallett was involved in a wreck that led to a flip on the first lap of the dash, which caused extensive damage to his machine and forced him to miss the heat race. Thanks to the help of fellow racer Lance Moss and his crew to put the car back together, Mallett was able to start the main event at the tail of the field and he worked his way to ninth in the opening three laps.

A red flag flew at this point for a serious accident, which took a significant amount of time to attend to. During this process, rain began to fall, which led to the race being deemed complete.

“We only officially got three laps scored, but were able to get back in the top 10,” Mallett said. “I had a really good car and was looking forward to showing everyone that we were back and it was good as new. That’s how it goes sometimes and we’ll move on to the next one.”

Mallett heads to Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., this Saturday for the only visit of the season by the USCS Series to the quarter-mile bullring. That race will be the only one on the schedule for the 26-year-old this weekend.

“I’m looking forward to having just one race this weekend,” he said. “It gives me a little bit lighter of a week. We hadn’t been home in 10 or 11 days after our swing through Georgia and the Carolinas so it will be nice to enjoy a little bit of a break. Greenville is close enough that we can leave home at lunchtime on race day and come home that same night as well. We are looking forward to it.”
