Mark Smith captures 8th USCS win of season in Back to Track finale at Southern Raceway on Saturday

Milton, FL - May 16, 2020 – USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National points leader, Mark Smith from Sunbury, Pennsylvania bested a talent-laden field of drivers from 16 states to win his 8th USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by K&N Filters event of the 2020 season. 19-year-old Californian and K&N Filters Pole Position starter, Giovanni Scelzi chased Smith the entire distance but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Past All-Star Circuit of Champions Champ, Greg Wilson from Benton Ridge, Ohio followed in the final podium position in third place. Dominic Scelzi finished in fourth place after starting sixth and Danny Martin, Jr. from Sarasota, Florida rounded out the top five drivers.

Two-time USCS National Champion, Morgan Turpen from Somerville, Tennessee led the next group in sixth place followed by North Carolinian, Justin Barger in seventh place. The 2019 USCS Championship runner-up and past USCS Rookie of the Year, Johnny Bridges from Cherryville, North Carolina was eighth followed by the evening’s Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger, Jeff Oliver from Pendergrass, Georgia in ninth place and Kyle Amerson from Montgomery, Alabama completed the top ten.

Mark Smith kicked off the evening’s action by winning the 6-lap USCS Hoosier Speed Dash. He (Smith) then won the Engler First Heat. Giovanni Scelzi won the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions Second Heat, Dominic Scelzi captured the checkers in the Butlerbuilt Third Heat. Johnny Bridges won the DHR Fourth Heat and Justin Barger closed out the heat race action with a victory in the Hero graphics Fifth and final heat race. The First B-Main event was won by USCS 2017 Mid-South Rookie of the Year, Chase Howard from Nesbit, Mississippi and Jacksonville, Florida’s Terry Witherspoon won B-Main number two.
