Hagar Derailed by Stuck Throttle During 4th annual Toccoa Tangle

Inside Line Promotions – TOCCOA, Ga. (March 31, 2015) – Derek Hagar had a rough outing at Toccoa Speedway last weekend.

Hagar, who was driving for Jeff McCall during the 4th annual Toccoa Tangle with the USCS, ran into a throttle issue during his heat race on Friday.

“The throttle started hanging so I had to run it wide open,” he said. “I could still control it with my foot, but it wouldn’t shut down like it needed to. Luckily the track was pretty heavy and I could hold it on the floor.”

Despite the issue he maneuvered from fifth to third place in his heat race. It appeared that Hagar caught a break when he garnered the starting position on the outside of the front row for the main event following the redraw, but the team was unable to make the feature.

“We had a motor problem, which caused the throttle to stick,” he said. “It ended up breaking the butterfly in half. It wasn’t safe to run in the feature because it was at a high idle. The car owner didn’t want to change the motor so we ended up forfeiting our starting spot.”

The weekend ended with Saturday’s race being cancelled.

Hagar is planning to compete this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. It will be his first race in his home state this season. Hagar won twice at the bullring last year.

“We had pretty good success there last year,” he said. “I don’t see why we can’t carry it over to this year. Hopefully we can go over there and get our first win of 2015.”
