Starks Picks Up Fourth Victory in Last Month during Debut at Bubba Raceway Park

Starks Picks Up Fourth Victory in Last Month during Debut at Bubba Raceway Park

Inside Line Promotions – OCALA, Fla. (Oct. 19, 2015) – Trey Starks continued his hot streak by capturing his fourth win in the past month on Saturday at Bubba Raceway Park.

The victory was his first at the track during his debut with car owner Jeff McCall and the USCS Series in Florida.

“It went about out as well as it could have,” Starks said. “We wanted to shake things down and get a feel for the car going into Short Track Nationals. I think we accomplished that.”

Starks opened the doubleheader on Friday by charging from eighth to second place in his heat race.

“The track was definitely different than anything I’ve been on,” he said. “The corners are completely different shapes and the surface is really hard. It doesn’t really have a ton of grip along with being fairly flat. It was more of a finesse track. It also went from being greasy slick early in the night right to dry slick. We had to pay close attention to it and the setup.

“I got a few cars on the start (of the heat race) and I think we ended up getting to second with three laps to go. I could have tried to do something with the leader, but I figured we’d already had enough passing points to at least be in the top six if not be high points. I felt like it’d be smarter to play it safe than chance something.”

Starks accumulated enough points during the heat race to make the four-car feature inversion, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

“The track really changed a ton from the heat to the main,” he said. “It was tough to tell, but it got a whole lot slicker in the main and there wasn’t much grip. We had a good battle with Eric Riggins and Danny Martin Jr. They were both real fast. We ended up getting by Riggins, but couldn’t quite chase down the leader.”

Starks finished with a runner-up result, which gave the team confidence entering Saturday’s finale.

After charging from third to win a heat race, Starks locked himself into the feature inversion as the high-points driver. Once again the inversion was a four, which lined Starks up on the outside of the second row for the 30-lap main event.

“The main was pretty tough,” he said. “We had two reds by Lap 4. It really effected our car. The surface was so hard, yet it wasn’t abrasive. It was like glass. With all the stoppages we sealed our tires over early in the race. We had a tough time getting the car going on restarts.”

Starks spent the first two thirds of the race battling for the lead before taking over the top spot with approximately 10 laps remaining.

“Then we had several restarts in the last five laps,” he said. “I really had to be careful to get the car rolling and not have too much tire spin and change up where I restarted the race. We ended up getting by and that was a great feeling, especially when it was our first weekend out with a new team.”

Starks is scheduled to return to competition with McCall Oct. 28-31 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 28th annual Comp Cams Short Track Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
