Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Feb. 22, 2016) – Derek Hagar hopes the third time is the charm as he is seeking to get his winged sprint car season underway this weekend.

Hagar had scheduled to kick off his 2016 campaign each of the past two weekends at NEA Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark., but rained postponed the opening attempt before the sprint car portion of the event was cancelled last weekend because of a low car count.

This weekend Hagar is slated to compete with the USCS Series at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., on Friday and Saturday.

“This year it’s going to be a two-day show so hopefully we can walk away with two wins,” he said. “It’d be huge for us. They put up some extra money for Saturday so to win a race or two would help us out pretty good and give us momentum heading into the season.”

Hagar has won his sprint car season opener two out of the last three years and both races were at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

“You’ve got to get on the fence and go there,” he said. “We’ve got a liking to that race track. It reminds me a lot of Lucas Oil Speedway (in Wheatland, Mo.) and we run real strong there. There’s something about those big, slick tracks.

“Me and (Tim) Crawley had a good race during USCS Speedweek last year and we finished second to him. I think we’d won there three straight years before that.”

Hagar scored seven USCS feature wins last season to give him 36 career trips to Victory Lane with the series.
