Starks Sweeps USCS Weekend in Carolinas Following Charge From 20th to Win

Starks Sweeps USCS Weekend in Carolinas Following Charge From 20th to Win

Inside Line Promotions – GAFFNEY, S.C. (Oct. 3, 2016) – Trey Starks was on a mission along the East Coast last weekend.

Not only did Starks sweep the USCS Series doubleheader in North Carolina and South Carolina to give him 10 feature victories at 10 tracks this season, he passed 24 combined cars to do so.

“We picked up where we left off with the 360 program,” he said. “We’ve been really, really good. Cherokee Speedway only sees 360 sprint cars once a year and we’ve won it the last two years. We’ve been on the top of our game.”

Starks, who was driving for Jeff McCall throughout the weekend, opened the action on Friday at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., by advancing from third to second place in a heat race. That ranked him sixth in overall points and lined the team up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“We had a great start (in the feature),” he said. “Everybody went to the bottom and middle. I went all the way above the cushion and we ended up getting the lead coming out of turn two. Our car could work up there. I just kept pressing forward and tried to lap as many cars as I could. Lapped traffic got pretty tricky at times. I knew pacing myself would be better than to get in a wreck.”

Starks led all 30 laps and he lapped up to fifth place during the dominating performance.

Momentum continued to roll on Saturday at Cherokee Speedway, where Starks maneuvered from third to second place in the dash before he won a heat race.

“There was a confusion on weighing after the heat race,” he said. “I thought we were told in the drivers meeting we were only weighing after the main. Turns out we weren’t so we got disqualified. That put us in the back of the main.”

Starks lined up last – 20th – for the 30-lap main event, but he didn’t stay there very long.

“I think we passed eight or 10 cars in the first two laps,” he said. “We were shot out of a cannon. We kept picking off cars. We had a caution with about 13 laps down and we were running third. I got by Eric Riggins Jr. on the restart and started tracking down (Lance) Moss. I think we got the lead on Lap 18. It was really fun coming through the field like that. You don’t always want to do it like that, but it was a ton of fun.”

After charging from last to first within the first two thirds of the feature Starks pulled away to earn the victory.

He is slated to return to action with McCall on Oct. 21-22 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the World Short Track Championships.
