Inside Line Promotions – MERIDIAN, Miss. (July 13, 2017) – Marshall Skinner earned a podium finish last Saturday to cap a solid weekend with the USCS Series.

The two-day weekend began on Friday at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Miss., where Skinner advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race.

“Starting position was everything,” he said. “When you start scratch in the heat race with a loaded heat it makes it tough. I think everyone in that heat race could have won the feature.”

That lined Skinner up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.

“I was decent, but there just wasn’t a lot of passing,” he said. “It was really hard to pass.”

Skinner picked up a handful of positions to post a ninth-place result.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park, where Skinner won the dash from the pole before he charged from sixth to claim a heat race victory.

“I was really good there,” he said. “I hated to give up that track position when I rolled the four-car inversion for the main event. I put Jordon (Mallett) and Derek (Hagar) on the front row. I rolled the dice and looked over at the lineup and thought, ‘I’ve just given this race away.’ The track was a momentum deal. If you didn’t mess up out front you’d win.”

Skinner quickly advanced from his fourth starting position into third place and he maintained the position until the checkered flag was waved.

“I was happy with it,” he said. “Third is good, but I think those two (Mallett and Hagar) got better and I stayed the same. It’s a small race track, but it races like a half mile because of the corner speed. You don’t let off the gas. It could have been a different story if we were able to start on the front row.”

Skinner will return to action this Saturday at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark.
