Mallett Finds the Podium Twice During USCS Competition in Georgia

Inside Line Promotions – BLUE RIDGE, Ga. (June 19, 2018) – Jordon Mallett continued to show the consistency that has him on top of the USCS Series championship standings last weekend when he recorded a pair of podium finishes in Georgia.

The action began on Friday at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, where Mallett finished second in the main event after starting on the outside of the second row. He and Trey Starks had a great battle on the last lap for the win after Mallett had opened the night with a third-place result in the dash and a charge from sixth to second in a heat race.

“The last time we were there we won so we had a good setup,” he said. “We had a good feature run going and actually chased the leader down at the end. I passed him for the lead coming to the white flag by about one-car length. Coming out of turn four to the checkered flag, we had some lapped cars and one slid up in front of me and killed my momentum and he beat me by a car length at the flag.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park, where Mallett finished third on a surface that was very challenging to pass on. The 25-year-old won the first heat race, which was preceded by a runner-up finish in the dash. Mallett started on the outside of the front row for the feature and was one of only a few drivers to try the low side of the track.

“The track was a lot narrower that it was at Lavonia,” he shared. “There wasn’t really much passing in the feature. It was pretty much single file around the top. I started second and ran second for about 10 laps. On a restart, I decided I needed to try something and went to the bottom and there was just nowhere other than the top that was raceable. I ended up getting passed and had to get back in line on top and never had a chance to get that spot back.”

The native of Greenbrier, Ark., has 23 top-10 finishes this season in 24 races, with 12 of those being top-five performances. Mallett has won three times in USCS competition and sits atop the series standings as he chases his second straight title.

“We absolutely have the expectation that anywhere we go, we have as good a shot as anyone at winning,” he said. “We expect to win and run in the top five every week. More or less, we know that when we push off for the feature, we are going to be able to be in the hunt every night. That’s all you can ask for.”

Mallett will return to Georgia this weekend to race on Friday at Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro and Saturday at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran with the USCS Series.
