Mallett Scores Three Podium Finishes During Start to 15th Annual USCS Sprint Speedweek

Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Tenn. (June 2, 2020) – Jordon Mallett earned his first three podium finishes of the season last weekend, highlighted by a second-place run on Friday at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark.

Mallett also picked up a pair of third-place results on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., and on Sunday at Lexington 104 Speedway during the start of the 15th annual USCS Sprint Speedweek.

“It’s good to be on the podium every night and I can’t complain by any means,” he said. “It’s a little disappointing to be that consistent and not leave with a win, but we kept learning and we’re getting better.”

Mallett kicked off the weekend on Friday in his home state of Arkansas by starting sixth in a heat race and advancing four positions to finish second. Following a random draw inversion, Mallett garnered the pole position for the night’s feature.

In the feature, Mallett took the initial lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first handful of laps before falling to second. In a feature that was littered with multiple cautions, Mallett got his final opportunity to make a move for the lead with three laps to go, but he wasn’t able to materialize a race-winning pass and held on for second – his best finish of the season.

“I felt like we were pretty good for the first handful of laps, but I knew it would be tough to hold onto the lead,” he said. “The track was really slick and we don’t really have a great setup yet for that. We were in the ballpark, but ultimately probably a second-place car.”

Mallett headed 52 miles south to Riverside International Speedway on Saturday. He placed fifth in the dash and won a heat race before lining up seventh in the A Main.

Mallett once again showed his muscle as he gained four positions to finish third and land on the podium for the second consecutive night. The top-five performance was the second of the season for the Greenbrier, Ark., native.

“I always look forward to going to Riverside as it’s a track I’m really familiar with,” he said. “We’re still learning about these cars and the track was really rough. If we had got some clean air and got ourselves up front we had a car capable of winning.”

For the conclusion of the weekend Mallett ventured to Lexington 104 Speedway, where he placed third in a dash and passed four cars to finish third in a heat race.

Mallett also capped the night with a third-place outing in the A Main. The result was the third top five of the weekend for Mallett and made him the only driver of the weekend to finish on the podium all three nights.

“Lexington is a track that usually comes down to the heat race and starting position,” he said. “We got a good starting position, but really we just maintained and stayed steady and that’s why we finished where we did.”

Mallett is currently weighing his options for this coming weekend and he is not sure where or when his next race will occur. However, he is excited about where his program is headed and believes that once the ASCS National Tour gets back going his team will be well prepared.

“Any time we can get track time in a non-points event off the Tour it allows us to try different things and fill up the notebook,” he said. “We keep learning things and we obviously have speed. If we run we will keep plugging away at it and if we do not, I think we have a nice baseline for when the tour starts back up to be competitive.”
