Inside Line Promotions – MILTON, Fla. (Feb. 25, 2021) – Greg Wilson highlighted a USCS Series two-day event at Southern Raceway by charging to a top-10 result last Saturday.
Wilson guided his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed team from fifth to fourth place in a heat race, which locked him into the main event. He lined up 14th and methodically picked off several positions before ending ninth. It was his third top 10 of the season.
“We battled starting position all weekend and it was a pretty tough track to pass on,” he said. “Once we got to the feature on Saturday we were passing cars and I felt like we were pretty good. The key was a little patience early on and picking my way through. At the end we got by a couple more cars by changing lanes and moving around on the track. We got rolling pretty good and had some speed.”
A fourth-place finish in a heat race on Sunday narrowly missed locking into the main event and forced Wilson into the B Main. He won the consolation race to transfer into the 15th starting spot for the main event.
“On Sunday it was about dollars and cents,” he said. “Drivers were wrecking stuff and they piled up four at one time. I don’t know how I missed that wreck. I could see drivers keep getting into each other. We were running 10th or 11th and I was concerned we were going to get tore up so I elected to pull off early.”
Next up for Wilson is a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader on March 5 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., and March 6 at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa, Fla.
“We were hoping to run our 410 a couple of weekends during this southern swing, but with the way it’s played out and with the weather this is the only chance we’ll get to race it before we head home,” he said. “The bulk of our schedule this year is 410 racing so it’s important to get a couple nights in with our 410. Plus, it will be nice to go into a format with qualifying and one where the pill draw doesn’t dictate too much.”
