Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Aug. 24, 2020) – Marshall Skinner charged forward to garner a top-five result during USCS Series competition last Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway.

“I was pretty pleased to finish fifth after starting that far back,” said Skinner, who rolled off the starting grid in the 11th position in his first 360 sprint car race in about four weeks. “The track kind of came to me as it went on, with the cushion moving up and making the track wider.

“It was a busy race – 24 cars starting on a bullring, bouncing off the cushion and hammer down for 30 laps. When it was over I felt like I’d passed 50 cars. Some of the time I wasn’t sure if I was passing a car for position or lapping it.”

Earlier in the evening, Skinner finished second in his heat race, keeping him from a better starting position in the A Main.

“I kind of stubbed my toe in the heat race,” he said. “I got the car too tight. That one was on me.”

While still being without his regular engine, Skinner was able to compete thanks to the aid of a long-time friend.

“My friend, Ed Lee, who lives down on the Gulf Coast, had a car sitting around for a couple of years from when his son raced it,” Skinner said. “He told me earlier this year that I was welcome to use the engine. He was coming to this area last week, so he brought the car along. We took the engine out on Saturday, de-winterized it and put it in my car.

“We did a partnership deal. We were both happy with the way it ran and how we finished.”

Skinner expects to have his own engine back under the hood in a couple of weeks.

“My parts have arrived, now I just have to put them together,” he said. “That takes a little while since I do it myself. I like to take my time and kind of massage everything so that I can get the maximum horsepower.”

Skinner plans on returning to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.
